About Lasinja

Lasinja (or lozenge): A traditional Crucian peppermint-flavored hard candy of Danish origin.

Back in 2013, when I hired my first employee here in the Virgin Islands, payroll was… ugly. None of the big-name payroll systems supported our local tax forms. QuickBooks Online? Didn’t work here. ADP? Way too expensive for most small businesses.

So, like many business owners, I got creative. I started with a free online calculator, then built my own spreadsheet. It worked until employees needed pay stubs, and one tiny typo led to a filing mistake. That mistake made me realize: payroll here isn’t just harder than it should be… it’s risky. And no one was fixing it. That frustration sparked an idea—to build payroll software made specifically for the Virgin Islands.

If you run a business in the Virgin Islands, you probably know the drill—spending hours fiddling with desktop software or calculating payroll taxes by hand, filling out forms like the 941VI and VIESA, and crossing your fingers that you didn’t miss anything. Over 3,200 employers here face the same headache every pay period. There had to be an easier way.

That’s why I built Lasinja—payroll software made for us. It calculates your payroll, generates every federal and VI tax form you need in seconds, and lets you pay your team through direct deposit using NACHA files, or printed checks. Your employees get a portal to see their pay stubs and W-2s, and you get your time (and peace of mind) back.

In just a year, Lasinja has processed over $6 million in payroll, helping local businesses—from restaurants to nonprofits—pay their employees accurately and on time. We’ve generated thousands of 941VI, 501VI, and VIESA forms. Our clients range from restaurants in St. John to landscapers in St. Thomas, to non-profits in St. Croix.

Because payroll in the Virgin Islands should be sweet. And now, it finally is.
