At Lasinja, we’re committed to overcoming the unique challenges of payroll processing in the Virgin Islands, particularly when interfacing with systems designed for companies in the continental United States. Here’s the latest on our progress and updates to our platform.
Direct Deposit
Direct deposit remains one of the most requested features from our customers. In August 2023, we searched for companies that would offer payment services in the Virgin Islands. One of them was Plaid, a company that initially confirmed its ability to support automated direct deposits for businesses in the Virgin Islands. We successfully integrated Plaid into our system in December 2024 and requested production access for our customers.
However, we recently learned that the service is still in beta testing—contrary to earlier communications. While Plaid’s marketing materials suggested full functionality (as seen here), their representative has since clarified this is not yet accurate.
To address this, we’ve been holding almost daily meetings with Plaid and their partners over the last two weeks to resolve the issues and expedite a solution.
What makes our request unique is that we are looking for a provider that allows employers to pay employees directly—without the funds first flowing through our accounts. This approach prioritizes transparency and efficiency while reducing potential risks for all parties involved. Plaid’s transfer feature was particularly compelling for this reason, and we are actively exploring alternative vendors who can provide a solution that meets these high standards and restore this feature as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, we’ve enabled NACHA file generation to ensure payroll processing remains seamless for our customers.
NACHA Files
For businesses whose banks support NACHA file uploads, this feature is now live. With a NACHA file, you can streamline payroll by simply downloading the file, uploading it to your bank, and submitting it for processing. Payments will be effective as per your payroll date.
Here’s how to get started:
Set Up Your Company Bank Account:
- Navigate to Settings -> Company -> Edit.
- Scroll to the bottom to enter your company’s bank account details.
Set Up Employee Bank Accounts:
- Go to the employee profile and select Edit.
- Scroll to the bottom to add bank account details.
- Employees can split their pay across multiple accounts by prioritizing distributions. For example:
- 10% to a savings account
- $250 to another savings account
- Remaining balance to a checking account
When generating the NACHA file, secondary accounts are processed first, followed by the balance being deposited into the primary account.
W2/W3 Statements
We’re excited to announce that W2 and W3 statements are ready for download:
- Navigate to Reports -> W2 to access and generate employee W2 forms.
- Any changes made to W2 statements will require a manual update to the corresponding W3 statement. Note that W3 values are automatically calculated based on existing payroll data.
We remain committed to delivering solutions that make payroll management as smooth and efficient as possible. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team.
Thank you for choosing Lasinja as your payroll partner.
